Brickmasons install, maintain, and repair masonry fixtures of all types.

Carpenters perform full-service carpentry work on doors, windows, walls, floors, and ceilings. They remodel offices, classrooms, and laboratories.

Cement finishers provide all concrete construction, repair, and maintenance services.Their work includes placing, finishing, protecting, and repairing indoor and outdoor concrete work on campus.

Building Maintenance electricians perform electrical repair and preventive maintenance in campus facilities. These services are considered normal operational costs for buildings allocated through general maintenance funds. Items serviced include lighting, HVAC systems,circuit breakers, exhaust fans, incubators, fume hoods, and water heaters.

Elevator mechanics maintain and repair elevators, dumbwaiters, and wheelchair lifts and perform any alterations required to meet the safety and usability needs of the campus.

The hydronics crew maintains and repairs closed-loop hot water systems on campus. They test and treat system water, facilitate chemical balance in the system, and maintain and repair systems corroded by excess particles.

Overheating in mechanical spaces costs the campus in lost energy efficiency. The heat and frost insulators add recyclable insulating materials to pipes and equipment to provide energy conservation and burn protection, and prevent unnecessary wear and tear on other mechanical room equipment.

Ironworkers fabricate and repair metal work and structures on campus.

Laborer-electricians perform lighting upgrades, clean fixtures, and recycle and dispose of used bulbs per EPA guidelines.

Laborers provide support services for numerous crafts and trades including plumbers, electricians, carpenters, cement finishers, and brickmasons. They also provide emergency response to exterior drain stoppages and plugged sanitary lines.

The locksmiths maintain, repair, and rekey locks on campus. The locksmiths’ comprehensive key management system organizes and updates complete university building records and the master key inventory.

Machinists handle upkeep of equipment, and maintain and repair fans, pumps, and compressors, bearing assemblies, hydraulic systems, and power transmissions. They can also manufacture new and replacement parts.

The mill workers design and build custom wood products to fit any need and brings projects to life with quality craftsmanship at a competitive price.

Operating engineers provide heavy equipment services.

Painters and glaziers beautify and protect campus facilities through traditional and custom paint, glass, and sign projects.
Painters provide full service painting for interior/exterior walls, doors, and windows. Glaziers execute glass door/window repair and replacement, glass shelves replacement, and skylight work. Sign workers make specialty and customized signs such as name plates, full color printed vinyl graphics, and banners, including logo reproduction.

Professionals in the pipe trades build and repair all of the complex systems that rely on  the circulation of liquid, steam, or gas. The pipe trades include Refrigeration, Plumbers, and Pipefitters.

• Refrigeration mechanics install, maintain, and repair campus refrigeration equipment. F&S refrigeration mechanics are EPA and chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) certified.
• Plumbers install, maintain, and repair systems used for potable (drinking) and non-potable water, sewage, and drainage. They also install, maintain and repair ventilation equipment and work with chemicals and fuel.
• Pipefitters install, maintain, and repair steam and hot water heating systems, fire suppression systems, and lab equipment (sterilizers, vacuum pumps and lab gases).

Refrigeration mechanics offer a variety of heating, air conditioning, & refrigeration services to clients across campus.

Roofers maintain and repair five million square feet of roofs on campus. During the winter months, roofers salt flat roof drains, clear roofs of snow and ice, remove snow from above entrances and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) ramps, monitor snowfall to avoid too heavy a load on the roof, and track and remove ice blocks from buildings.

Sheet metal workers repair, replace, and maintain metal work on campus, including heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system components, and architectural elements.

Three crews of steam distribution operators provide 24/7 coverage to respond to all types of leaks, gas or unidentifiable odor calls, unfamiliar noises, abnormal conditions of facilities, and equipment failure.

The water station operates the water distribution system, including water processing equipment. They are also responsible for campus pest control.
